Our Dynaudio (Part 1)

2022-03-31

In 1977, Dynaudio was established in Skanderborg, Denmark. Dynaudio has always attached great importance to technology. The most notable example is that the factory owns the world-famous Jupiter testing facility (Jupiter testing facility), located in the center of the R&D building. Its scale is a huge room of 13 x 13 x 13 meters. A huge 6-meter robotic surveying array. It is equipped with 31 microphones to measure the impulse response of the loudspeaker, allowing the engineering team to make fast, comprehensive and accurate measurements. Although the small Klippel Near Field Scanner System has appeared in recent years, it cannot replace it. Dynaudio speakers perform exceptionally well because every detail is meticulous. However, Dynaudio still relies on the most sensitive analytical tool: the human ear. It makes all the difference.

<<Self-developed and produced>>
Except for the first two years of the factory, Dynaudio uses all speaker units developed, designed and manufactured in-house. The Dynaudio unit quickly made a name for itself in the industry. It is characterized by excellent characteristics, including transient response, dynamic range, and phase accuracy, rather than purely pursuing the flatness of the frequency response curve, and the quality is extremely high. Dynaudio has a credit for Danish speakers that have left a mark on audio history.

Dynaudio speaker units are excellent and can be matched with each other, which has become the basis for the development of outstanding speakers. Dynaudio cones are of exceptional quality and can be explained in several parts:

First, Dynaudio has been using the soft MSP (Magnesium Silicate Polyer/magnesium silicate polymer) material to manufacture the diaphragm of the mid-bass and bass, providing the perfect combination of lightness, strength and damping. MSP produces no ringing, avoids distorted frequencies, keeps the sound highly facsimile, and stands the test of time that would otherwise have been altered long ago.

Second, the diaphragm and the dust cap are integrally formed, and the voice coil bracket and the diameter of the diaphragm have an appropriate ratio, so that the entire structure has better strength and is not easy to cause basin splitting distortion. If you observe carefully, it is not difficult to find that the surface of the MSP diaphragm is covered with a layer of extremely fine "sand". This is to drive metal particles into the surface of the diaphragm with high pressure to further strengthen the strength of the MSP diaphragm.

Third, the Dynaudio cone adopts an internal magnetic structure, which effectively and fully utilizes the magnetic energy, while the others is generally an external magnetic type. The advantage of a large voice coil is the ability to generate stronger and more accurate braking force. Because the large-diameter voice coil is exposed, it helps to dissipate heat and can withstand higher power without distortion.

Due to the large caliber, the flexibility of the voice coil is relatively low. In this case, the voice coil is changed to aluminum wire instead of copper wire to reduce weight, and it means that more windings are used within the possible range to better control the cone, exercise at high volume. The high-cost varnished insulated golden-yellow aluminum wire voice coil is heated and expanded into a hexagonal shape. There is no virtual space between the wires, and the current density and heat dissipation performance are comprehensively improved.

There is a so-called "the best person is the best person for the job", the Dynaudio woofer uses a copper wire voice coil, the purpose is to use its more mobile mass (mass) to obtain more power. It sounds better. It's purely a matter of science and ears. Dynaudio spent months researching, measuring, and most importantly, listening to many different configurations of aluminum and copper (including thickness) voice coils to choose the best sounding use. There's a reason the Dynaudio unit is excellent.

Fourth, Dynaudio uses hybrid magnets to better control flux and voice coil movement. A powerful neodymium rare-earth magnet provides the power, combined with an asymmetric aramid fiber spider, for a controlled symmetrical stroke that reduces second harmonic distortion for a more accurate, truer sound.

Fifth, the Dynaudio cone is equipped with a special aluminum metal airflow bracket (AirFlow basket). It is small and sturdy, it is not only keeps the entire driver motor firmly in place in the cabinet, but also reduces internal reflections and increases air flow, which in turn broadens and straightens frequencies, reduces the use of tuning elements for crossovers, Better sound.
